ITHACA (City Centre)
36 John Dalton Street, Manchester, M2 6LE             Tel: 0870 740 4000
ITHACA Manchester

This stunning four storey gastrodome took over two years to create at a cost of over £4 million. The Restaurant, situated on the ground and first floors is exquisitely decorated and features spectacular mirrored chandeliers and luxurious furnishings creating a sense of comfort and sophistication. However, the real stars of the show here are the food and drink!

Harry Ramsdens (Stretford)
Unit 5, Castlemore Retail Park, Throstles Green, Stretford, Manchester, M16 0SN             Tel:
Despite its lacklustre atmosphere, Harry Ramsden’s serves up a variety of traditional meals, with the most notable being its renowned fish and chips. A cheap and cheery restaurant, this is a family favourite, and as a result is known to get quite busy at peak times. The staff are attentive, even during these busy periods and do their utmost to ensure you are enjoying your dining experience. The restaurant decoration isn’t really that noteworthy – generic restaurant art work and glaring bulbs hang from the ceiling, although when your cod and chips arrives on the table, there’s not much chance of you noticing it

Livebait (City Centre)

Tucked away on the edge of Albert Square, this trendy, if slightly expensive, seafood restaurant is something of a hidden secret in Manchester’s dining circles. A wide variety of seafood dishes, incorporating prawns, mussels, lobster and fish, form the basis of the menu, though a range of land-based meats are also available. For the real Livebait experience, the Seafood platter for two at £55 pounds is wholly recommended (and well worth the hefty price tag). As you’d expect from such an upmarket establishment, the staff are courteous and readily available to talk you through some of the many ingredients in the dishes. The restaurant itself is smartly decked out; tiles and deep green booths create an intimate dining venue that you’d almost suspect was located on a pier by the coast.

Sinclair's Oyster Bar (Deansgate)
2 Cathedral Gates, Deansgate, Manchester, M3 1SW             Tel: 0871 207 1737
A Manchester institution, Sinclair’s Oyster Bar has been around since the time of the industrial revolution. As a result, it’s a charming bar and restaurant – low wooden beams and a wonderful sixteenth century décor give this restaurant real character. Specialising in a large and varied selection of seafood, Sinclair’s Oyster Bar is a venue for all occasions. Often crammed, you’ll need to fight your way to the bar to order your food and for your efforts you’ll be rewarded with a wooden spoon to place on your table. Ye Olde English down to its very core, Sinclair’s valiant attempts to cling onto its historical roots has firmly placed it on our top restaurant list. A restaurant with real character in a city convoluted with chrome and mezzanine contemporaries.

Yo! Sushi (City Centre)
Selfridges Manchester, 1 Exchange Sqaure, Manchester, M3 1BD             Tel: 0161 838 0614
This long running Sushi chain offers a genuine Japanese dining experience from the inside of the Selfridges building. Placed on a revolving conveyor belt, freshly prepared dishes are temptingly passed under your nose, and you simply pick and choose you preferred dish of choice. With over 100 varieties to choose from, each with its own distinct taste and preparation style, this is a novel little restaurant and a genuinely interesting experience for those of you more accustomed to doting waiters. Your choice of meal isn’t just restricted to Sushi though and a range of meat dishes are available - we recommend the salmon teriyaki for sheer taste and value for money. The pleasant ambiance and the gentle whirring of the conveyor belt creates a relaxed atmosphere to dine in and you can’t help but wish that more restaurants were this laidback.
