Manchester pubs ban hoodies
21/04/2006
Anyone wearing baseball caps, hoodies or tracksuits will be banned from every pub in a town centre in Greater Manchester, as part of a scheme to clamp down on inappropriate behaviour.
The ban came into force in Warrington last night, meaning anybody entering any of the 35 pubs and bars in the town after 8pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays will not be served and asked to leave.
The police-backed scheme is part of a nationwide crackdown on youths wearing 'intimidating clothing', following in the footsteps of the Trafford shopping centre and the Bluewater complex in Dartford, Kent.
Hoodies and baseball caps have become associated with groups of aggressive youths across the country, with Manchester taking the lead in applying the ban.
Police have warned youths attempting to enter pubs that they will not be served and that staff would take "appropriate action" to have them removed.
Extra police are also planned to patrol the town centre streets at weekends to deter trouble-makers, while bar staff are undergoing training from council trading standards officers and the police to teach them how to say "no" to underage drinkers.
